Every time I've moved into a new apartment it's been ready and decorated in, oh, a month. Tops. I've collected furniture and art from all sorts of neat places and am always anxious to get everything set up in a new place so it feels like home. But, not so much this time. I've gone minimalist... this place is empty and white compared with my other apartments, which were full of my red and colorful furniture. I've actually gone months without anything on the walls, in part because there just hasn't been the time to decorate, but also because for the first time in my life I've sort of enjoyed the lack of stuff.
Well, now that I've said that, there are a couple of new additions to the place. I finally had my SF streetcar posters framed (colors! yay!) and managed to mooch a cool bamboo chair off a friend who's leaving town. My goal is to make the place homey enough for a Halloween housewarming party. Yeah, right.
This week kicked my ass. Completely, utterly, totally. Here's a quick rundown:
Monday: Two proposals due. Worked from 7.30a.m. to 8.30p.m. without getting up from my desk except two caffeine runs to Starbucks.
Tuesday: Buncha admin crap to deal with. Sat at the bank for an hour to open a bank account. Went to a ladies' dinner (reminding myself it's important to be social) and it was fascinating -- they were from far-flung places like Uganda, Suriname (next to Venezuela), and Switzerland, and had such interesting perspectives on life in Beijing.
Wednesday: Marathon new business meeting. Another proposal to do.
Thursday: Left the apartment at 6.15a.m. to fly to Shenzhen (near Hong Kong) to do foreign media training for a group of PR folks at a huge Chinese company. Arrived home at 12.30a.m.
Friday: Revised proposal due. Kimberly officially brain dead. Too tired even to get drunk.
Saturday: Shopping with Mom. Ordered new curtains for the apartment, got plants and some fun knickknacks. Worked tonight.
Tomorrow I'll get a permanent phone number for the new phone (yay!) and explore a historic area of Beijing that's been redone.
Next week I get to do it all again. Holy crap.
